We are accustomed to measuring time in seconds. This series of abstract paintings uses paint to measure time. After a painting session, I usually have unused paint leftover on my pallet. Sometimes, if I know I will use the paint in my next session, I will save it. However, if I don't need the leftover paint for the current painting, I will use it in the Seconds series. The number in the title describes the painting's order in the series.
These paintings represent a collective "second use" of paint as well as the time between sessions and time between paintings. Each Seconds painting is slowly built up as leftover paint allows. Each pallet of leftover paint is different and inspires different applications to the canvas. Not only does each Seconds painting represent time, each canvas also holds small pieces (or snapshots) of each painting the paint came from. Sometimes, a Seconds will be made entirely from paint from one other painting. Other times, a Seconds will be made from paint from several works, taking weeks or months to evolve.
