Bush pilots are part of the lifeblood of rural Alaska. Many people rely on pilots for transportation, goods, mail, hunting, and other necessities. The original oil painting was commissioned by a friend who took this photograph of her partner's experimental Kit Fox bush plane as they were exploring rivers and gravel bars in the Talkeetna area. The moose antlers were found nearby.
The plane was built by the pilot himself. It is a small, agile aircraft that can get into and out of tight places. During the summer months, the plane usually has floats for water take-offs and landings. My friends live on a lake near Talkeetna which makes it convenient for them to fly in and out right from their backyard. How cool is that?!
