The Fairview Inn is one of the oldest functioning buildings in the historic district of Talkeetna, Alaska. For generations, it has been a local watering hole and gathering spot. It was built in 1923 by Bruno (Ben) Nauman, a German immigrant. The Fairview was built during prohibition and did not originally have a saloon.*
I have spent many an afternoon (into the evening) on a barstool at the Fairview. One sunny summer afternoon I was walking down Main St. and decided to pop in for a refreshment. The saloon was nearly empty and I saw this beautiful vase of sunflowers sitting on the bar. I was instantly inspired to paint them, so I snapped a quick photo for reference.
